With this poem, Shelley invites the reader to contemplate how the only connection to reality that we have is through fleeting sensations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginal leather binding by Riviere and Son, a London-based binding house, dates from 1910 and features intricate inlay designs and gilt edges. This notebook features a recreation of the original’s front “doublure,” the inside face of the cover board. Protected from wear, this part provides bookbinders with additional room for unleashing their creative skills. A. Spencer and now resides in The New York Public Library’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-mce-style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eSpencer Collection of fine bindings and illustrated books\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-mce-style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e. \u003cspan\u003eWilliam Augustus Spencer visited the Library's Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street building in 1910, while it was still under construction. He was so impressed that he vowed to bequeath his personal collection of fine illustrated books in fine bindings to the Library. Only two years later, Spencer booked passage on the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, and did not survive the terrible wreck.
